From the reviews
Love this gym! My morning classes with Rissa (Mobility Yoga) and Jennifer (Gentle Yoga) have made my core stronger and my joints much more nimble and flexible. Thank you both for your excellent pointers…always gently guiding my form into the correct places. I feel welcomed and well supported in both classes.
I've been going to Justin's Senior Fitness class for several years now, and will shortly be moving away from Portland to be nearer our daughter and grandson in California. I'll miss many things about Portland, but near the top of my list is this class!
Antonio was an incredible personal trainer. I came in with a very specific goal, and he took the time to truly listen and build a customized program tailored exactly to what I needed. He created a routine focused on strength, stamina, and flexibility, all in a way that felt intentional and supportive of my body.
Lloyd Athletic Club has been a true positive in my life since 2014. It is spacious, full of excellent equipment and the nicest staff. I have enjoyed many classes as well as individual training. Justin Olson was the first group teacher I got to know. He is very good at leading and encouraging everyone he works with.
Your first pole class at Lloyd Athletic Club
Nervous about your first pole class? Almost everyone is — and a good studio expects total beginners to walk in the door. Here's what to know. You don't need to be strong, flexible, or thin to start — pole builds all of that, and your first class is about learning to spin, walk the pole, and hold on, not inverting on day one. What to expect: a warm-up, some conditioning, and a few basic spins or a short combo — it's a real full-body workout, so expect to sweat and to feel it in your arms and core the next day. Rest whenever you need to; no one is watching or judging. What to wear: shorts and a tank or sports bra — bare skin on your arms, legs, and stomach is what grips the pole, so save the leggings for aerial or floorwork. Skip the lotion the day of class; it makes the pole slippery. Grip aids: most studios keep grip liquid (Dry Hands / iTac) on hand, and knee pads make floorwork comfy — ask at the front desk. What to bring: water and a small towel — there are showers on site if you need one after. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign in and meet your instructor. It clicks fast — most people leave their first class already planning the next one.
