I've been wanting to try Aerial Silks for some time now, and the experience at Above Ground Aerial with Rebecca did not disappoint! Her love for the art shows through to her personality and I couldn't have asked for a more patient, supportive, welcoming and knowledgeable instructor.
I have been going to Above Ground every week for 3 months and am so impressed with Amanda and her team. I started with absolutely no aerial experience and I've learned so much in a very short time. They have done a great job working with me at the pace I am comfortable with while pushing me to build strength.
Wow! This was a fantastic treat while visiting my sister. I’m a fitness enthusiast, so this experience was right up my alley! Our instructor Rebecca was phenomenal!!! Her excitement for aerial silk practice and performance could be seen and felt in her smile, encouragement and clear instructions.
Above Ground is one of those places than can bring the best out of anyone no matter the skill level. Amanda and Peter are both very thorough with their teaching and rest assured that safety is at the forefront of each class. Great environment and great instructors! Also, I'm 6'4" and am up there in weight.
Your first pole class at Above Ground Aerial Arts LLC
Nervous about your first pole class? Almost everyone is — and a good studio expects total beginners to walk in the door. Here's what to know. You don't need to be strong, flexible, or thin to start — pole builds all of that, and your first class is about learning to spin, walk the pole, and hold on, not inverting on day one. What to expect: a warm-up, some conditioning, and a few basic spins or a short combo — it's a real full-body workout, so expect to sweat and to feel it in your arms and core the next day. Rest whenever you need to; no one is watching or judging. What to wear: shorts and a tank or sports bra — bare skin on your arms, legs, and stomach is what grips the pole, so save the leggings for aerial or floorwork. Skip the lotion the day of class; it makes the pole slippery. Grip aids: most studios keep grip liquid (Dry Hands / iTac) on hand, and knee pads make floorwork comfy — ask at the front desk. What to bring: water and a small towel. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign in and meet your instructor. It clicks fast — most people leave their first class already planning the next one.
