Just when I thought there wasn’t a world-class venue for my body and all of its potential in Missoula, Montana or in, honestly, the Whole World. The “Wow Factor” at Pole Fiction—and thanks to Sterling Instructor of Pole Miss Gracie N.—is, as kids are saying, “second to none.” My body, as the Bible sayeth, is a temple.
My FAVORITE place in Missoula. Within Pole Fiction is a rich, inclusive and inspiring community. The instructors are all incredible and will meet you wherever you are, whether you've never touched a pole or if you've been practicing for years. Fellow students are so welcoming & encouraging, too.
First off, Victoria is an awesome instructor for noobs like me. I'm a welder, combat veteran, and love hunting and fishing, so this was completely out of my realm of normalcy. When I first got there, I was really nervous. But that all went away pretty fast, especially with the professionalism of the instructor.
I've been taking their Pole Foundations classes and Sensual Flow classes for 5 months now. I'm hooked. This is hands down the most fun way to get a workout in! All of the instructors I've had are super welcoming and excellent at meeting students at their individual level.
Your first pole class at Pole Fiction
Nervous about your first pole class? Almost everyone is — and a good studio expects total beginners to walk in the door. Here's what to know. You don't need to be strong, flexible, or thin to start — pole builds all of that, and your first class is about learning to spin, walk the pole, and hold on, not inverting on day one. What to expect: a warm-up, some conditioning, and a few basic spins or a short combo — it's a real full-body workout, so expect to sweat and to feel it in your arms and core the next day. Rest whenever you need to; no one is watching or judging. What to wear: shorts and a tank or sports bra — bare skin on your arms, legs, and stomach is what grips the pole, so save the leggings for aerial or floorwork. Skip the lotion the day of class; it makes the pole slippery. Grip aids: most studios keep grip liquid (Dry Hands / iTac) on hand, and knee pads make floorwork comfy — ask at the front desk. What to bring: water and a small towel. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign in and meet your instructor. It clicks fast — most people leave their first class already planning the next one.
